Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 3, 2026  ·  Version 1

Beak is a product of Zukisan Labs LLC. References to "Beak," "we," "our," and "us" in this Privacy Policy refer to Zukisan Labs LLC.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Beak collects, uses, and shares information when you use our app. Beak is a social availability platform that lets you share your current mood, interests, and availability with people you choose.

By using Beak, you acknowledge the practices described in this policy. If you have questions, contact us at support@beaktheapp.com.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly and information generated by your use of the app:

Beak does not provide in-app messaging or calling. When you connect with friends through Beak, any messaging or calling happens through your device's native apps such as iMessage or your phone's dialer. We do not have access to, retain, or process the content of those communications.

3. Information Other Users May See

Depending on your privacy settings and the audience you select when posting a beacon, other Beak users may see:

Your phone number and email address are not publicly visible and are not shown to other users by default. However, when you accept a friend connection on Beak, your verified phone number and email address become visible to that friend on your profile. This is intentional — Beak is designed to connect people who already know each other, and sharing contact methods is how friends can reach you outside the app. If you do not want someone to have access to your contact information, do not accept a friend request from them.

Your discoverability settings control whether others can find you by username or phone number search. They do not affect what your accepted friends can see.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Information you provide for one purpose will not be used for a materially different purpose without your consent, except as required by law or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy.

5. Location Data

Location sharing is always optional. You can post a beacon without attaching any location, and you can revoke location permission for Beak at any time in your device settings.

When you choose to include a location with a beacon, your device sends GPS coordinates to our servers so we can create an approximate location for that beacon. We do not intentionally store or display the original precise coordinates. Before location is stored or shared, we apply a randomized offset of approximately 5 miles (8 km). The resulting approximate location is what appears on your beacon and what others see. The same beacon will show the same approximate location each time it is viewed, rather than a location that changes on each read.

We do not use your location for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond resolving and displaying the approximate location you chose to share with your selected audience.

6. Contacts and Friend Discovery

If you grant Beak permission to access your contacts, we use the phone numbers in your address book only to check whether people you may know have Beak accounts. We do not store your address book on our servers. We do not build, sell, or distribute a contact database from your contacts. Phone numbers submitted for matching are used solely for that lookup and are not retained.

You can revoke contacts permission at any time in your device settings.

7. Push Notifications

We use your device push token to send notifications related to social activity on Beak, such as when a friend posts a beacon. You can disable push notifications at any time in your device settings. Disabling notifications does not affect your ability to use Beak.

8. Analytics and Diagnostics

We collect app usage events, crash reports, device information, app version, and operating system version to understand app performance, fix bugs, improve reliability, and measure feature usage. We do not intentionally include phone numbers, email addresses, precise location, authentication tokens, or message content in diagnostic logs.

Analytics and diagnostics data is processed by our service providers, which may include Firebase (Google) and PostHog. We do not share this data with advertisers.

9. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We also do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

10. Your Privacy Choices

You have several controls over how your information is used:

11. Data Retention and Account Deletion

Beacons are no longer visible to their selected audience after the expiration time you set. We may retain limited records for a period of time for security, abuse prevention, debugging, legal compliance, backup, and legitimate business purposes.

When you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify your personal information, except where we are required or permitted to retain information for legal, security, fraud prevention, or legitimate business purposes, as permitted by applicable law. Deleted or de-identified information may persist for a limited time in backups or logs before being removed according to our normal retention practices.

12. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted communications and secure authentication via Firebase. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to protect access to your device.

13. Children's Privacy

Beak is intended for users who are at least 18 years old and is not directed to children or teenagers under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a person under 18, we will take steps to delete it promptly. If you believe we may have collected such information, contact us at support@beaktheapp.com.

14. U.S. State Privacy Rights

Depending on applicable law, residents of certain U.S. states may have rights to know what personal information we collect, to access or correct that information, to request deletion, to receive a portable copy of certain information, and to limit certain uses or disclosures. We do not sell personal information and do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

To make a privacy request, contact us at support@beaktheapp.com. We will respond as required by applicable law.

15. International Users

Beak is operated from the United States and is currently intended for users in the United States. If you access Beak from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using Beak, you consent to this transfer.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app. If required by law or if changes materially affect your rights or choices, we may ask you to review or accept the updated policy before continuing to use Beak.
